Yesterday, I preached the third part of our “You Asked For It” sermon series at Journey Church of the Nazarene. Below is the video to the sermon “What is the Big Deal with Homosexuality?”. You can listen to the audio here.
“Are you for or against Homosexuality?” That is the question that is ripping the Church in two. In this sermon, I propose that we must follow a third way, the way of Jesus that transcends the two-sided war going on within churches and denominations today.
I believe that we must do the following:
- Get rid of our Pharisaical sin-scales that rate some sins worse than others.
- Obey Jesus’ teaching to consider our own sins as much worse than others (Mt. 7:1-3).
- And commit to “living in love, as Christ has loved us and gave his life for us” (Eph. 5:1-2).
I recognize this message leaves many questions unanswered regarding LGBT people and the church. The goal of this sermon is to point Journey Church in the direction of a third way of addressing these issues.
“At Journey Church, we confess that we are all sinners, saved by grace, and in the process of being transformed by the love of God. We will not judge those who are different than us. We will love and accept everyone, inviting people to journey with us in being made whole.”
